Five of the eight positions for the 2020 Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Okotoks have been filled.

The Laura Walker and Jodi Vaughan rinks qualified for the Alberta Scotties by winning the A and B draws, respectively, of a provincial women’s qualifier in Calgary in December.

Walker downed Ryleigh Bakker in the A final 10-2 in the A final in Calgary to qualify for the 2020 Scotties.

Vaughan took a harder route.

After losing her first game, she rattled off five straight victories to capture the B title by downing Bakker 7-4 in the final.

Vaughan made it to the semifinals of the 2019 Alberta Scotties.

Kelsey Rocque of the Saville Club in Edmonton, had previously qualified for the 2020 Alberta Scotties by being the top Albertan — other than Canadian reigning champion Chelsea Carey — in the Canadian Team Ranking System.

Rocque, a two-time world Junior women’s champion (2014 and 2015), lost to Carey in the finals of the 2019 Alberta Scotties.

Casey Scheidegger from Lethbridge and Kayla Skrlik from Calgary, qualified for the 2020 Alberta Scotties by finishing first and second, respectively, in the Alberta Excel points race.

Scheidegger won the 2018 Alberta Scotties when she downed Okotoks’ Shannon Kleibrink in the final.

Skrlik may find Okotoks to her liking. She won the Alberta Junior Women’s championship in Okotoks in 2018.

The final three spots for the 2020 Alberta Scotties will be determined at the Jasper Place Curling Club in Edmonton on Jan. 10-12.

Profiles of the respective teams going to the 2020 Alberta Scotties will be posted online at this site in the near future.

The 2020 Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts is Jan. 22-26 at the Murray Arena in Okotoks.
