MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Second-term Mountain View Country councillor Angela Aalbers says she plans to seek a third term in the Oct. 18 municipal election.
The councillor for Division 5, Aalbers is one of three current councillors who have announced their intention to seek re-election, the others being Dwayne Fulton (Division 1) and Greg Harris (Division 2).
Councillors Duncan Milne (Division 3), Bruce Beattie (Division 4) and Al Kemmere (Division 7) say they do not plan to seek re-election.
Division 6 first-term councillor Peggy Johnson says she is still undecided on whether to run again.
Aalbers says if she is re-elected, promoting the economy in the municipality will be one of her priorities.
“The provincial government has put out a plan to increase investment, expand trade and have business development in ag and forestry, and one of my things is that I’d like to ensure that Mountain View County can benefit from those plans ,” said Aalbers.
“I think we can grow our agriculture business economic development for the county based on those plans, I’m hoping.”
Working with the Town of Sundre and community to lobby the provincial and federal governments for a new or expanded Sundre health campus would also be a priority for her, she said.
Nominations for the 2021 election opened on Jan. 1 and close on Sept. 20. There are seven council seats in Mountain View County, with one of the councillors selected by fellow councillors to serve as reeve.
