The election takes place on Oct. 18, with the nomination period officially opening on Jan. 1 and closing on Sept. 20 at noon.
Mayor Lance Colby, who has already said he plans to seek another term in October, is encouraging residents to run.
“I think people should look at running and look at what they think they can bring to council,” said Colby. “I think it is important that residents get involved in and around town. I feel that it is important to have different views on council.”
“There are things to plan for, for 2021, 2022 and beyond. We look forward to five-year, 10-year, 20-year plans.”
Current councillor Bob Green, who has served 14 years on council, says he is “95 per cent” sure that he will not be seeking re-election in October.
“It’s time for someone new,” said Green.
Al Gil, a second-term current councillor says he will not be seeking re-election when the current term expires.
Marty Ratz, a current councillor who was first elected in a byelection in 2015 and re-elected in 2017, says he plans to seek another term.
Councillor Shannon Wilcox also says she plans to seek re-election.
“I think there is much work ahead, especially as a result of the pandemic,” said Wilcox.
Third-term councillor Dean Allan says he is strongly considering a run for another term.
“As of right now I think I am,” said Allen. “I probably will run again.”
Councillor Rick Blair, who has served 20 years on council as of 2021, says he will be seeking another term.
The town is facing a number of key issues going forward, said mayor Colby, who was first elected in 2003.
“We are looking at development this year and trying to get more industrial to come in,” he said. “We are looking at our fire hall, at policing, water reservoirs and a lot of other things."
