DIDSBURY - Newly re-elected second-term Town of Didsbury Mayor Rhonda Hunter says she is looking forward to continuing the work started by the previous council, including in the area of business growth and development.
Hunter defeated challenger Erhard Poggemiller in the Oct. 18 municipal elect, according to unofficial results. Hunter got 853 votes while Poggemiller got 787.
“I can’t wait to get back to work,” Hunter told The Albertan Monday evening. “Things are going so well, I think. We have lots of growth and development going on.
“I’m excited about all the growth and development that has gone on and keeping that momentum going. It’s a positive and interesting time for Didsbury.”
She said she is looking forward to working with the new council, which includes both incumbents and newcomers.
“I’m excited to see what we can all put together,” she said.
The library expansion will be a major project for town going forward, she said.
Infrastructure funding may pose challenges for the new council term, she said.
“When we look at our road network, we have a big deficit of road repairs and replacements and improvements. With infrastructure cuts coming from the government that is going to be a big challenge,” she said.
