INNISFAIL- Natalie Klein’s date with the judge over allegedly defying COVID restrictions has been set for the summer.
Earlier this month the Innisfail barbershop co-owner, who openly defied provincial COVID rules last January, posted on her Facebook page that her trial has been set for Aug. 20 in provincial court at the Red Deer courthouse. She had been scheduled to appear in Red Deer provincial court on April 19.
The co-owner of Innisfail’s Bladez 2 Fadez Barbershop, along with her husband Yanik Brazeau, were served with the original two COVID-related violation tickets on Jan. 13; one for removing a notice posted for public information and another for contravening an order of the medical officer of health.
At the time, provincial COVID restrictions did not allow barbershops to be open for business. The province later announced that as of Jan. 18 personal service businesses could open by personal appointment only. As of today (April 27) barbershops can still be open for business.
Klein, who is running for town council in the Oct. 18 general municipal election, was originally slated to be in court for the original charges on March 8 but they were erroneously withdrawn through a letter from the Crown. On March 11, the new and now current COVID-19-related charges were laid.
