Summer Bucket List Activities

Don’t let another summer season go by without doing something fun. Here are some activities that may have been on your bucket list for a while. It’s not too late to give them a try!
7-4 Bucket List

Pick Strawberries

There are a lot of u-pick farms in the area, and is there anything better than fresh strawberries? Take some time on a lovely day and pick your own strawberries outdoors. It has the movement benefits of standing, squatting, kneeling and bending, and at the end of it you have a big basket of delicious, sun-ripened, sweet and juicy berries.

Take A Road Trip

This is Alberta and there are so many short or long road trips that can provide fun and adventure at a moment’s notice. Head to the mountains, attend a festival, or hit the beach. Bring the family back to somewhere you lived in your youth.

Play Bocce

Bocce ball is one of the oldest lawn games out there. Make your bocce ball court on whatever space available to you, and play with a set of nine balls (eight large and one small). It’s simple to learn and very family friendly. Divide your group into two teams. One player throws the smallest ball to the end of the court, and the play continues with the other players trying to roll the larger balls as close to the smaller ball as possible.

Disc Golf

This is not a new sport, but its popularity is growing. It’s an outdoor game where you throw frisbees at a basket, with rules similar to golf. Just like bocce, it’s fun for all and easy to learn. There are lots of places to play in Alberta. Join a league if you fall in love with this sport.

Croquet

Here is another older sport that you might not have played a lot. The much bigger, competitive version is coming back in fashion. This game is more advanced and can be a real skill. Croquet is a social game that has a big national presence, but the informal backyard version is just as much fun to play with friends and family.

Washer Toss

Build your own washer toss game with the help of this video. This game consists of two wooden boxes with a target inside and six weighted washers. The goal is to toss the washers into the target to score. Follow formal rules, or just make up your own!
