CALGARY — The family of an Alberta man believed to have been murdered earlier this year is pleading with the public to help find his remains.
Shane Eric James Smith, 20, of Chestermere, west of Calgary, was reported missing June 7th.
Police arrested 24-year-old Ian Charles Abercrombie of Calgary. He faces several charges including second-degree murder, one count of indignity to a human body, one count of breaching a court order and breach of a firearm prohibition order.
Investigators had already asked last month to hear from anyone who drove over the Bow River Bridge on Deerfoot Trail S.E. between midnight Saturday June 6 and 9 a.m. Sunday, June 7, and have dash camera footage.
Members of his family appeared at a news conference in Calgary Thursday asking for the public's assistance.
"I am here begging anyone who knows anything about that tragic night that ruined our lives forever to please come forward," said his older sister Cassandra Smith.
"He didn't deserve to have his life taken. He doesn't deserve to be out there alone."
Shirley Smith said her 'loving, handsome' son didn't deserve to have his life taken and she wants him back.
"This is a living nightmare. We are asking everyone who lives on the outskirts of Calgary, the smaller towns surrounding Calgary, please check your fields and ditches. We are so desperate. Please help us."
