EDMONTON — The Alberta government is warning people to take proper COVID-19 precautions as people prepare to gather over the Easter long weekend.
The province reported 37 deaths and a total of 1,053 hospitalizations, including 48 ICU admissions over the last week.
Health Minister Jason Copping says the PCR test positivity rate on average from April 5 to April 11 stood at 26.6 per cent.
He says the United Conservative Party government is not surprised by the upward trend in wastewater virus levels and the overall hospital occupancy is stable at around 90 per cent.
Copping says even though cases and hospitalizations may continue to go up, the government does not expect the same level of severity seen in the initial Omicron wave in December and January.
Dr. Deena Hinshaw, chief medical officer of health, recommends that people consider who they're going to gather with over the weekend and take precautions such as masking based on their own risk assessments.
