STRATHMORE, Alta. — Alberta RCMP are looking for suspects who shot two people -- one fatally -- at a rural intersection east of Calgary, but investigators no longer believe they are in the area.

RCMP Staff Sgt. Mark Wielgosz told a news conference on Tuesday night that police from their Strathmore detachment responded to the scene at around noon, and that two suspects fled the scene in a white half-ton pickup truck that was part of Rocky View County's fleet.

The truck was tracked to a second location where officers began searching properties in the area for the suspects, and an emergency alert was issued telling people in the vicinity to shelter in place.

Wielgosz says police eventually determined the suspects were no longer in the area and the shelter-in-place advisory was lifted, but the hunt for the suspects continues.

He says police don't have a description of the suspects or even whether they're male or female, and don't know the motive for the shootings.

The name of the person who was fatally shot has not been released.

The second victim received superficial wounds, Wielgosz said. He said the two were not working together.

Wielgosz says another vehicle was disposed of at the first scene.

Investigators also don't have any information on where the suspects may be headed or what sort of vehicle they might be in, but they're releasing a photo of the Rocky View County truck in case someone might have seen it between 11:45 a.m. and 12:30.
