HINTON, Alta. — A girl is dead and seven other people were hurt in a head-on crash east of Jasper National Park.
RCMP say its appears a pickup truck driven by a man from British Columbia crossed the centre line of Highway 16 and collided with an SUV carrying seven people from Edmonton.
A 10-year-old girl was declared dead at the scene.
Police say six other people in the SUV ages 13, 14, 16, 19, 44 and 56 were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the pickup, who is 26, suffered minor injuries.
RCMP say the Tuesday morning crash forced the temporary closure of the highway and caused significant traffic delays.
