Mountie injured after being involved in shooting east of Edmonton: police

RCMP are investigating after an officer was involved in a shooting Saturday night in a community on the Alberta-Saskatchewan border.

Police say a member of the Lloydminster crime reduction unit was investigating a weapons complaint when he came across the suspect.

The RCMP officer chased the suspect on foot into the park, where they stole an occupied RV and drove it toward the officer. This resulted in the RCMP officer discharging his service firearm.

While trying to flee, the suspect collided with civilian vehicles, injuring several people. The officer involved suffered minor injuries.

Officials say the suspect was arrested and there will be a heavy police presence in the area of Weaver Park Campground.

The RCMP’s internal review processes have also been implemented to gather a complete account of what happened during the incident, including police training, policy, and response.
