CALGARY — Police have charged a man for breaking into an evacuated home after a massive explosion in Calgary last month sent 10 people to hospital.
The March 27 explosion and fire blew many of the victims into the air and threw them into a fiery basement below.
The blast also damaged several other homes and led to an evacuation of the area.
Police say a woman and her husband were returning to their home on March 30 and confronted a man who was leaving there.
He claimed to be security and fled, but the residents found there had been a break-in and several pieces of jewelry were taken.
Several weeks later, police responded to a break-in at a leisure centre and arrested a man inside who was also a suspect in the March break-in.
Fifty-three-year-old Daniel Riley Johnson of Calgary faces several charges including break and enter, theft over $5,000 and possession of break-in instruments.
