RCMP say experienced backcountry skier died after fall south of Lake Louise

LAKE LOUISE, Alta. — RCMP in Alberta say a skier has died after a fall south of Lake Louise.

Police say a group of five men hiked to the peak of a couloir, or steep gulley, in the Moraine Lake area on Saturday morning.

They say that during their descent, a 30-year-old man fell and suffered severe injuries.

EMS attended the scene but the man didn't survive.

Police say he was from Calgary and was an experienced backcountry skier.

They say they will not be releasing his name.
