CALGARY — Rookie Jake Maier will make a third straight start at quarterback Monday when the Calgary Stampeders host the Edmonton Elks.
Maier was listed atop Calgary's depth chat at quarterback, ahead of Canadian Michael O'Connor, for Monday's contest.
Earlier this week, incumbent Bo Levi Mitchell resumed practising with Calgary after being removed from the six-game injured list. The Stampeders put the two-time CFL MVP on the list last month after he was diagnosed with a fractured fibula.
Although Mitchell was a full participant in practice, he was placed on the one-game injured list for Monday's contest.
Maier has posted a 1-1 record in Mitchell's absence. He completed 16-of-29 passes for 304 yards with a TD and two interceptions in a 28-22 win over Montreal in his CFL debut before finishing 30-of-39 passing for 307 yards in an 18-16 loss to Winnipeg last week.
Calgary (1-3) visits Edmonton (1-2) on Saturday to complete the home-and-home Labour Day series.
Mitchell has been Calgary's starter since 2014 and guided the club to two Grey Cup victories (2014, 2018). He's also captured the CFL's outstanding player award in 2016 and '18.
