LAKE LOUISE, Alta. — Officials say they are scaling back the search for a 23-year-old man from India who is presumed dead after falling into the North Saskatchewan River in Banff National Park.
Dwight Bourdin of Parks Canada says the man was hiking along the Glacier Lake trail on Saturday with two other people.
He says the man stopped for photos beside the river when he fell in and was swept away.
Bourdin says the other two hikers ran alongside the river, but lost track of the man about three metres downstream.
Parks Canada and Lake Louise RCMP had been searching the area with helicopters, boats and K9 teams.
Bourdin says the man, who was living in Canada on a work visa, is suspected to have drowned.
"After multiple days of searching, Parks Canada visitors safety specialists will be scaling down the search efforts, but will return to the area for continued helicopter searches for the coming weeks," he said Tuesday.
Parks Canada and RCMP say they will not be identifying the missing man.
