CALGARY, Alberta (AP) _ Suncor Energy Inc. (SU) on Wednesday reported a second-quarter loss of $442.9 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.
On a per-share basis, the Calgary, Alberta-based company said it had a loss of 29 cents. Losses, adjusted for non-recurring gains, came to 71 cents per share.
The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 44 cents per share.
The energy company posted revenue of $3.06 billion in the period.
Suncor Energy shares have decreased 45% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $17.92, a fall of 42% in the last 12 months.
