CALGARY — Police in Calgary say a townhouse complex in the city's northeast was damaged when a suspected impaired driver smashed into it Monday night with a stolen vehicle.
They say no one inside was injured, but residents in one of two units damaged had to be rescued by the fire department because the crash destroyed stairs in the home.
Police say a silver minivan believed to be speeding in the Cornerstone neighbourhood hit the median in a traffic circle, kept going and hurled into the building.
Investigators say a man, suspected to be the driver, climbed out of the van and broke a window in the townhouse unit to climb out.
He was treated by paramedics before being arrested for impaired driving.
Charges have not yet been laid.
Investigators are looking for video evidence or any information from witnesses about the driver and vehicle, including what may have led to the crash.
