BOWDEN — Mayor Robb Stuart is pleasantly surprised that Bowden’s population grew by 40 residents in the past five years or so.

Statistics Canada figures released Feb. 9 showed Bowden’s population rose from 1,240 in 2016 to 1,280 in 2021, an increase of 3.2 per cent.

“The figure is higher than expected,” Stuart wrote in an email.

“I had been unsure of the accuracy of the 1,240 count from 2016. I personally thought that we were around 1,100 for population.

“With the old hotel (by Highway 2) being converted to low-rent housing, this new census seems very accurate,” he wrote.

Stuart said 2022 “looks promising” for the community.

“Town council will be taking action on some of our strategic planning initiatives, which we hope will bring more residents and businesses to town,” he wrote.
