Companies in the news:
First Quantum Minerals Ltd. (TSX:FM). Down $2.25, or 8.06 per cent, to $25.65. First Quantum Minerals Ltd. said the Panamá Maritime Authority has suspended loading operations of copper concentrate at the port for its Cobre Panama mine. The stoppage related to the certification of the scales at the facility is the latest development in the company's dispute with Panama over tax and royalty payments. First Quantum, which said it has submitted the required paperwork, said it may become necessary to shut the mine if concentrate is not shipped by mid-February due to limited storage capacity at the mine site. The Panamanian government ordered the suspension of work at the mine in December after the two sides failed to reach a new profit-sharing agreement.
Sun Life Financial Inc. (TSX:SLF). Up 14 cents, or 0.21 per cent, to $67.18. Sun Life Financial Inc. said it has named former Rogers Communications chief executive Joe Natale to its board of directors. The insurance company said he will join the board as of Tuesday. Natale left Rogers in November 2021 after a fight for control over the company that pitted members of the Rogers family against one another. He was replaced by Tony Staffieri, who had been chief financial officer at Rogers.
