HALIFAX — Nova Scotia's police watchdog agency has laid two assault charges against 52-year-old Lawrence Doucette, a constable with the Cape Breton Regional Police.
The Serious Incident Response team says the charges are related to two alleged assaults against a female officer with the force.
An agency news release says it was contacted by Cape Breton police on Sept. 23 about an alleged domestic assault by one of its members.
The release says the force had conducted a preliminary investigation and arrested Doucette.
The watchdog agency took over the investigation and ultimately charged him with two counts of assault, stemming from incidents alleged to have occurred on Sept. 23 and in July.
The release says Doucette is scheduled to appear in provincial court in Sydney, N.S., on Nov. 10.
