Man charged with first-degree murder following fatal shooting in Halifax-area

HALIFAX — A 26-year-old Halifax-area man has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of 18-year-old Dieago Downey. The victim was shot on March 14 in North Preston, which is east of Halifax, and died in hospital.

HALIFAX — A 26-year-old Halifax-area man has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of 18-year-old Dieago Downey.

The victim was shot on March 14 in North Preston, which is east of Halifax, and died in hospital.

Police in Halifax say they executed search warrants and arrested Daniel Romeo Downey in the Dartmouth area on Wednesday.

He was also charged with attempted murder following the recent discovery of a second victim in the case, a 29-year-old man from North Preston.

Daniel Romeo Downey appeared in Dartmouth provincial court on Thursday and was held in custody.

He is scheduled to return to court on July 2.
