FREDERICTON — RCMP in New Brunswick say their police operation in the Minto area is over after searching for a man who allegedly shot a firearm.

Police have issued an alert saying residents in the community approximately 50 kilometres from Fredericton can now exit their homes and return to normal activities.

More than an hour earlier, police issued an alert asking Minto residents to stay inside and lock their doors or avoid the area as they searched for a man carrying a firearm with "intent to use it."

RCMP say one person is now in custody.

Few other details on the nature of the investigation have been released.

The Mounties say police will remain in the area as part of the investigation.
