One person injured after fire at tent encampment in front of Halifax City Hall

HALIFAX — One person has been injured after a fire at the homeless tent encampment in front of Halifax City Hall. The municipality says firefighters were called to the Grand Parade square around 6:30 a.m. after a report of a tent fire.

HALIFAX — One person has been injured after a fire at the homeless tent encampment in front of Halifax City Hall.

The municipality says firefighters were called to the Grand Parade square around 6:30 a.m. after a report of a tent fire.

Upon arrival firefighters discovered that a propane appliance, two nine-kilogram propane tanks and two lawn chairs were on fire.

Officials say the flames were quickly extinguished but a nearby tent sustained fire damage.

One unidentified person was treated at the scene but declined further medical care.

No other injuries were reported and officials say the cause of the fire has not been determined.
