KING'S COUNTY, PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND — Police say a pickup truck struck and killed a horse in eastern Prince Edward Island on Wednesday.

RCMP Cpl. Gavin Moore says the animal had escaped and was running along a rural, two-lane road when it was hit.

He says police were notified about the collision at around 8:15 p.m.

The horse was pronounced dead at the scene, and the male driver of the truck was unharmed.

Moore says the man is not facing any charges.

Police say a cyclist was also hit by a vehicle and mildly injured that day, and the two incidents prompted the Mounties to issue a news release asking motorists to be prepared for "unexpected situations while driving."
