RCMP have charged two suspects following a stolen property investigation in Foothills County.
The arrests came after police used GPS to track a stolen generator to a rural property. A search warrant was carried out by officers from the Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit and High River detachment on May 2, RCMP said.
A stolen generator, stolen utility trailer and over 1,000 pounds of copper wire were located during the search.
Police said the wire “was actively being stripped for recycling purposes.”
Chad Eroshinsky, 53, of Foothills County, was arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and theft over $5,000.
Eroshinsky was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Okotoks on July 15.
Clayton Whaling, 43, of Foothills County, was charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and breaching a court order.
Whaling was released following a hearing and is scheduled to appear at Alberta Court of Justice in Okotoks on June 7.
RCMP say they are continuing to investigate, and they recommend that property owners put GPS trackers on their stored property.
“This will greatly assist RCMP if there was a need to investigate a theft,” RCMP said.
Following a traffic stop north of Calgary on April 22, Whaling was arrested and charged with three counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
It is not known if the most recent charges are related to that incident.
