Two seniors are being charged after Hinton RCMP received a fraud complaint on Jan. 19.
The victim had met a man claiming to be an ex-RCMP member who could get him a good deal on a repossessed vehicle.
After receiving money, the suspect stopped all further communication.
A police investigation revealed that two people were involved in this fraud, and the RCMP had never employed either of them.
Alvina Strauss, 78, a resident of Ardrossan, Alta., was arrested and charged with fraud under $5,000 (x2), obstruct police and assault on police.
Strauss was released on conditions, including a Feb. 21 court date in Hinton that she failed to attend.
The court has since issued a warrant for her arrest.
Dwain Donald Wog, 76, a resident of Hinton, was charged with fraud under $5000 (x2).
Police are currently looking for him, and the courts have issued a warrant for his arrest.
“Hinton RCMP believe that Wog and Strauss have other victims throughout Alberta,” stated a police release.
"Anyone who may have been victim of a similar fraud, or who has information on Wog’s and Strauss’ whereabouts, is asked to call the Hinton RCMP at 780-865-5544, or their local police.”
