RCMP officers deployed a tire deflation device on Dec. 5 to apprehend two Red Deer residents, who had allegedly broken into a commercial business in Airdrie and stolen two vehicles.
Airdrie RCMP were called to a business in East Lake that day around 1:30 a.m. According to a press release from the detachment, a male and female suspect entered the business and took the keys to two vehicles that were parked outside.
As officers arrived, according to RCMP, the suspects fled in the two stolen vehicles; one being a garbage truck. Officers were able to follow the vehicles as they drove north on the Queen Elizabeth II Highway. The suspects abandoned the garbage truck near Crossfield and continued to travel north (together in the other vehicle) on the QEII Highway.
Near Innisfail, officers successfully deployed a tire deflation device and took the suspects into custody.
Juan David Gomez, a 27-year-old resident of Red Deer, has been charged with the following offences:
- Break and Enter
- Mischief over $5,000
- Theft under $5000
- Theft of a motor vehicle x 2
- Flight from peace officer
- Fail to comply with release order condition
His accomplice, 32-year old Tash-Leigh Maceachern, also a resident of Red Deer, has been charged with the following offences:
- Break and Enter
- Mischief over $5,000
- Theft under $5000
- Theft of a motor vehicle x 2
- Flight from peace officer
- Possession break-in instruments
Gomez and Maceachern were brought before a Justice of the Peace and are being held in custody. Their next court appearance is on Dec. 8 in Airdrie.
