Alberta county singer cracks top 8 in Canadian SiriusXM contest

Prominent Okotoks songstress Brettyn Rose is among eight Canadian musicians that have made it to the semi-finals in a national country music competition. 

One winner will be crowned the Top of the Country Champion and will take home $25,000 in the 2025 Top of the Country competition, presented by SiriusXM Canada and the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA). 

The contest's eight semi-finalists were announced on Feb. 20, and they represent six provinces. Each artist will record an original song, and Canadian country fans will be able to vote for their favourite artist to help determine who makes it into the top 3. 

Rose is described as a necessary voice in county music, with a captivating voice, relatable lyrics and a sound that is her own. 

A familiar face at events and fundraisers in Okotoks, Rose performed during the first-ever concert at Seaman Stadium last summer, and played during the Alberta Summer Games when they were held in Okotoks.

Her resume includes nominations for YYC Music Awards and Country Music Alberta Awards.

Noeline Hofmann, from Bow Island, is the other Albertan to make it into the top 8. 

The contest is a milestone in the careers of these rising stars, said Michelle Mearns, with SiriusXM Canada. 

"Now in its seventh year, we've seen firsthand how this competition propels Canadian talent, and we can't wait to see what this year's artists bring to the studio and soon the stage," Mearns said. 

These eight artists represent the next wave of top Canadian country talent, said CCMA president Amy Jeninga. 

“Initiatives like Top of the Country play a crucial role in discovering and nurturing emerging artists, giving them the platform they need to grow and succeed," Jeninga said. 

"Year after year, we are amazed by the depth of talent that exists in every corner of this country,” she said. 

The three finalists will perform on some of Canada's biggest stages this year, like Lasso Montréal and Country Music Week 2025, in Kelowna, B.C., where the winner will be announced.
