Mounties have laid 21 charges against a St. Albert resident who allegedly used stolen identity documents and bank cards to make off with about $30,000.
The resident, 28-year-old Lucas Pinheiro Da Silva, was arrested last November by the St. Albert RCMP's crime reduction unit, and charged with fraud, identity, fraud, forgery, and more.
“In August, 2023 St. Albert RCMP responded to a report of a theft of a wallet from a vehicle that was inside a garage,” explained RCMP K-Division spokesperson Cpl. Troy Savinkoff. “In November, 2023 RCMP received a report that [the victim's] identity was used to take money from his bank accounts and secure loans from fast funding locations in St. Albert and Edmonton.”
“Forged stolen checks from a different theft were also deposited into the victims account and withdrawn.”
Da Silva is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in St. Albert on Feb. 26.
