A Diamond Valley resident has been recognized for his role in the search for a missing person.
On Feb. 21, Fire Chief TJ Moore presented a special commendation to Mike Luchia for his role in locating 71-year-old Allan Bowman earlier this year.
Bowman had been missing for almost two days when Luchia found him on Jan. 6. The two had worked together in the past and had known each other for over 40 years.
The commendation says that intuition and a gut feeling led Luchia to check a ravine near Highway 22 and 498 Avenue West, where he found Bowman.
Luchia called emergency services and stayed with Bowman until help arrived and then assisted first responders.
The Town of Diamond Valley and Diamond Valley Fire Rescue extend sincere gratitude to Luchia for his outstanding efforts.
Bowman had been missing since Jan. 4, when he drove off the road and his vehicle became stuck.
He was able to call 911 but land and air searches failed to locate him, and local RCMP turned to the public for help.
Many area residents took part in the search, as well as local first responders and a Calgary Police Service helicopter.
After Bowman was located, he was airlifted to hospital in serious condition.
According to an obituary published in the Jan. 31 issue of the Western Wheel, Bowman died later that month, although an exact date was not listed.
