BONNYVILLE - Bonnyville RCMP have arrested and charged a youth with arson after a church was destroyed in a fire late last night.
At approximately 9:45 p.m. yesterday, Bonnyville RCMP, along with Kehewin and Bonnyville fire services, responded to a report of a fire at an abandoned church in Kehewin.
The Our Lady of Mercy Church had been vacant for years and was going to be demolished. No one was injured in the blaze.
Through an investigation, police determined the fire was deliberately set.
Police have arrested and charged a youth, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, with arson.
The youth was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in Bonnyville court Sept. 21.
