Update: Grass fire north west of Calgary brought under control

Out of control grass fire near Spring Bank Heights Drive and Spring Bank Heights Way.

Rocky View County (RVC) is reporting that a fire near Springbank has been brought under control and extinguished.

According to RVC, Fire crews will stay on site throughout the evening to monitor for hot spots.

The fire's location on a forested hillside made ground efforts challenging, but air support was successfully used to prevent the spread. Fire protection remains in place for nearby homes.

RVC thanked Alberta Forest Protection Services and fire departments from Springbank, Bearspaw, Elbow Valley, Cochrane, Calgary, and Redwood Meadows for their collaborative efforts in controlling and extinguishing the fire.

Affected residents may still choose to evacuate to Springbank Park for All Seasons, where accommodations and other supports for families and pets are available.
