EDMONTON - A shooting that left three injured at West Edmonton Mall is believed to be a targeted event and the parties were known to each other, police said Monday night.
Police say they do not believe there is any further risk to the area at this time.
On Monday Aug. 21 at around 7:40 p.m. the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) responded to a report of a shooting at West Edmonton Mall.
Police found three men with gunshot wounds and they were transported to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The mall went into a lockdown and the EPS Tactical Unit cleared the mall to make sure it was safe before the lockdown was lifted.
Police officers remain on site as patrons and staff exit the mall.
Preliminary investigations give police reason to believe that this incident was a targeted event, and the parties are known to each other. We do not believe there to be any further risk to the area at this time.
"As this investigation is in its infancy, this is all the information that we can provide at this time. We are hoping to provide further updates in the upcoming days as this investigation unfolds," EPS said in a release.
