A man who allegedly shot a St. Albert teen who was looking at old and abandoned cars on the man’s property was denied bail this morning.

Jim Bregin, 84, was charged with aggravated assault, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and intentional reckless discharge of a firearm.

On June 29, a 16-year-old who was trespassing on Bregin’s property was shot and suffered serious injuries. The teen is still in hospital but is in stable condition.

The 16-year-old was with a 15-year-old friend who was not hurt.

Bregin’s neighbours said that Bregin often expressed concern about thefts.

Bregin kept hundreds of junked vehicles on his property.

He appeared at the Alberta Court of Justice in Morinville.
