The Town of Okotoks is asking for patience as it tries to be a good neighbour during Calgary's water crisis.
Pools and water parks in Calgary are closed in the aftermath of a watermain break that caused a local state of emergency in the city.
With facilities in Calgary closed, an influx of visitors is leading to capacity issues for swimming pools at the Okotoks Recreation Centre, according to the Town.
“We are seeing some users from Calgary come to the Okotoks Rec Centre,” Town of Okotoks senior strategist Ben Morgan said.
Swim lessons and other programs for Okotoks and area residents should not be affected, Morgan said.
“Our priority is continuing with the programs and services for Okotoks and area residents,” he said.
Pool capacity is being strained for drop-in pool time, and Morgan asked for patience while space is shared with a higher number of users.
“The City of Calgary is in a temporary jam,” he said. “We are trying to find a balance between operating normally and trying to be a good neighbour."

In Calgary, a state of emergency was declared on June 15 following a major waterline break that occurred on June 5.
The original watermain break in Calgary has been repaired, but five other issues in the city's water system were identified for repairs, and work is expected to last another three to five weeks, the City said.
