Former Cochrane Lions Rodeo Royalty Breanna Correia was recently named the 2025 Calgary Stampede Princess at her official crowing Nov. 13.

Correia, a 23-year-old communications student from Calgary, currently attends Mount Royal University with the goal of becoming a professional communicator. From 2020 to 2022, Correia served as the Cochrane Lions Rodeo Queen.

Her journey in the world of agriculture first started at the age of nine, after she joined her local 4-H club. Outside of her studies, Correia also coaches multiple local 4-H clubs.

Correia was part of seven contestants who were vying for the title. According to the chair of the Calgary Stampede Royalty Committee Jenelle Fortmuller, this year’s entrants were among the best in Alberta.

“The calibre of this year’s competitors was outstanding,” Fortmuller said “The young ladies who put themselves forward in the competition for the ambassadorship are accomplished women who are already leaders in their communities.

“The Royalty Committee is proud to have Breanna crowned as the 2025 Calgary Stampede Princess. She shone in her horsemanship, public speaking, and interpersonal skills, making an impact on our judges and the Stampede community alike.”

Fortmuller added that Correia showed a strong understanding of what it means to be the Stampede Princess, alongside the Stampede organization itself. She looks forward to working with Correia over the next year.

“The Royalty Committee is excited to see her personal and professional development over the year,” Fortmuller said. “We know she will thrive in the honoured role of ambassador of the Calgary Stampede.”

Correia will act as an ambassador for the Calgary Stampede alongside the 2025 First Nations Princess, who will be crowned at a private event on Nov. 17.

They will be handed the reigns from the current 2024 Calgary Stampede Princess also from Cochrane, Brooke Fielding, and the 2024 First Nations Princess from Stoney Nakoda First Nation, Margaret Holloway.

Correia and the upcoming First Nations Princess will be attending multiple events throughout 2025, including the Calgary Stampede. They will serve the community while spreading and celebrating the Stampede’s western heritage, culture, and community spirit, while also progressing their own professional and personal development.
