A 41-year-old Canmore resident is facing charges for a residential break and enter and nine outstanding warrants for fraud.
Canmore RCMP responded to an ongoing break and enter on Lincoln Park, off of Bow Valley Trail, on April 16.
The homeowner had walked in on the suspect, chased him and called the police, stated an RCMP media release.
After pursuing him on foot, police said they arrested the 41-year-old Canmore resident.
“Investigation into this break and enter revealed that the same suspect entered that residence unlawfully the day before as well,” stated an RCMP media release.
The man also had seven outstanding warrants in Canmore and one in each of Banff and Chestermere.
Police said he had been involved in several rental-related fraud investigations in Canmore going back to 2018.
According to police, the man would place an ad on Kijiji for a rental property in Canmore, ask for the person inquiring about the rental to send a damage deposit and then end any communication once they had sent money.
Dayne Keith Hoknes is facing two charges of break and enter, resisting arrest and failing to comply with conditions. He’s also charged with nine counts of fraud under $5,000.
He was remanded to custody following a judicial interim release hearing and will appear in Canmore Court of Justice on April 24.
