LAC LA BICHE - Lac La Biche RCMP are continuing to investigate a multi-vehicle collision that occurred Wednesday evening on 101 Street involving four vehicles.
At about 8:45 p.m. residents in the residential neighbourhood just north of downtown businesses heard the crash of metal as a dark-coloured SUV collided with three parked vehicles along the street. The chain-reaction crash began when the SUV collided with a car parked in front of the Lac La Biche POST newspaper office. The SUV continued north along 101 Street, striking two more parked vehicles before slamming into the back of a parked pickup truck.
The driver and lone occupant of the SUV remained in the vehicle as police and fire crews arrived at the scene. Fire crews had to use emergency equipment to extricate the man. Witnesses at the scene say he was not physically hurt in the incident. Following an assessment by paramedics, the driver, who was in stable condition and had only suffered minor injuries, was taken to hospital.
RCMP members did issue a road-side alcohol test to the driver at the scene, and are continuing to investigate causes for the incident, including medically-related factors.
The vehicles involved sustained substantial damages. A punctured fuel tank on the first car that was hit caused some fuel to be spilled along the roadway. Fire crews cleaned up the spill and halted any contamination into the storm-sewer system.
RCMP and fire crews were at the scene for over an hour.
As the investigation continues, RCMP have not said if any charges will be issued in connection to the incident.
