WESTLOCK – Three of the four youth accused of beating, stabbing and leaving a woman for dead near Long Island Lake had appearances scheduled in Westlock Court of Justice on Oct. 21.
The youth were scheduled to appear by CCTV from the remand centre but instead, lawyers on their behalf asked that the matter be adjourned to November. They can't be identified in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Three of the youth have been arrested and a fourth is still wanted on a warrant. They face numerous charges including attempted murder, robbery, threats to cause death, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, and failing to comply with release orders.
Police say on Sept. 7 the accused took an 18-year-old woman out of the Westlock area and suddenly attacked her in an attempt to kill her and then left her in the forest to die.
She suffered serious life-threatening injuries and was taken to Westlock hospital. She was then flown by STARS to an Edmonton hospital for further treatment. RCMP say she is expected to survive the assault.
Three eyewitnesses who rescued her recounted to Town and Country Today what they described as a “horror movie.” They said a woman emerged from the side of the road, covered in blood, telling them that she had been stabbed and left in a ditch.
