CANMORE – Just as classes are returning to local schools, a COVID-19 positive case has been confirmed in Canmore.
In a letter sent to parents and staff Monday evening (Sept. 7), superintendent Chris MacPhee said that Canadian Rockies Public Schools (CRPS) has been informed of a positive coronavirus case.
"CRPS has been notified by Alberta Health Services (AHS) that a case of COVID-19 has been diagnosed in an individual from Lawrence Grassi Middle School," wrote MacPhee.
"Our schools remain open to in-person learning for students, and we are working closely with AHS to ensure necessary measures continue to be in place to protect all staff and students."
AHS is contacting the families of students, as well as staff or volunteers who may have been in close contact with the person who tested positive. Students asked to quarantine will be supported by a teacher to maintain learning.
"We have also taken the precautionary step of moving one other class, who has a sibling of the individual who tested positive, to online learning for a limited time," wrote MacPhee.
"This is a temporary measure until we have confirmation from AHS officials that it is safe for their children to return to school."
The superintendent said that classes are set to return on Tuesday (Sept. 8) and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
