Cross-country hitchhiking 'Lucky' the lobster plushie reaches Alberta

The journey of a stuffed crustacean owned by a Southern Alberta couple has over 22,000 on its Lobster Quest TikTok channel.

Lucky the Lobster's cross-country trip will be coming to a close today.

After a journey that's garnered a massive social media following, Lucky's long-awaited arrival will be celebrated at Hub Town Brewing in Okotoks today (Sept. 6) at 5 p.m.

Lobster Quest from East to West started in Charlottetown, P.E.I. after Chris and Karen McCallum were gifted a large lobster trap there — unable to fit it on a plane, they enlisted the help of Canadians to help the trap and plushie make their way to Okotoks, with Lucky making stops everywhere from the Maritimes to Saskatchewan.

"In some crazy way, we got to see parts of Canada that we'd in some cases never even heard of," said Chris. "Certainly never visited, but we also got to see parts of Canadians that warmed their hearts."

The stuffed crustacean became a viral sensation as the Lobster Quest TikTok channel has accumulated over 22,000 followers since Lucky's journey began in July.

"We've always been proud Canadians, but we've never been more proud of Canadians than what they did on moving this little stuffed lobster across the country," said Karen.

Lucky will be brought to Okotoks by Tourism Calgary this afternoon, after making a few stops in the city. Lucky's Alberta adventures over the last few days have taken him to Sylvan Lake, Devon and the village of Nyrman.

"We just wanted someone to transport the trap to our home," said Karen. "That was it. We never, ever thought that it would [be]... so exciting, so heartwarming, we've just got endless stories of what this little guy did for various people across the country."

The McCallums are eager to show off Okotoks and the Foothills to the tens of thousands of people across the country who have followed the journey.

"We really want to show Okotoks to the world," said Chris.

The McCallums plan to take Lucky on a pub crawl after he's arrived at Hub Town. Stops are planned at Big Beaver Brewing in Okotoks and Hard Knox Brewery in Diamond Valley.
