The Crown who is prosecuting the four youth charged in the savage attack that left an 18-year-old woman almost dead near Long Island Lake, about 100 kilometres north of Edmonton, in September is seeking to have the youth sentenced as adults if they are convicted.

Crown Prosecutor Eric Mosley told Westlock Court of Justice on Dec. 4 that he filed a Notice of Intention to Seek an Adult Sentence under section 64(2) of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

One of the youth is also seeking bail. Defence lawyer Sunny Anuebunwa told Westlock Court of Justice on Dec. 4 that he wanted to speak to bail for his client but the court adjourned the youth’s matter, along with his two co-accused, to Jan. 8.

A fourth youth is also charged and a Canada-wide warrant has been issued for his arrest. None of the youth can be identified due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act. They are all charged with attempted murder, robbery, and aggravated assault.
