Wood Buffalo RCMP are asking for information on an alleged assault that took place in Fort McMurray last month.
Police have just released a dash-cam image of a man they say is a suspect in an aggravated assault that took place at on October 7 at the intersection of Paquette Drive and Rainbow Creek Drive. Police say the incident was reported at around 7:40pm
The initial investigation has lead police to believe that an unknown male driving a red mustang, possibly with a beige soft top roof, approached the victim’s vehicle, opened the driver’s door and allegedly assaulted the victim while he was still sitting in the vehicle. Police say the suspect then departed the area driving towards Parsons Creek.
Police are asking anyone in the region who may recognize the suspect or the vehicle description to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800-222-TIPS or the Wood Buffalo RCMP at (780) 788-4040.
Police are also using this incident to promote a new program where voluntary surveillance camera footage from the public is used for investigations.
CAPTURE (Community Assisted Policing Through the Use of Recorded Evidence) is being used at detachments through the province. It is a voluntary surveillance camera registry program, which allows residents and businesses with surveillance to register the location of their cameras to assist RCMP with investigations and keep the community safe. Any contact information and video cameras submitted on the website would not be available to the public. Residents and business owners can register for the CAPTURE program with their local RCMP detachment.
RCMP have not released the age or condition of the alleged assault victim in the Fort McMurray incident.
