A driver was transported to hospital via STARS air ambulance in life-threatening condition this morning following a collision on Highway 2 north of Okotoks.

At approximately 6:25 a.m., Okotoks RCMP responded to a motor vehicle collision in the southbound lanes of Highway 2, approximately two kilometres south of Dunbow Road.

Upon arrival, police say officers located a small sedan that had rear ended a semi-truck that was parked on the shoulder.

A 44-year-old male, a resident of Okotoks and driver of the vehicle, was transported to hospital. He was the only occupant in the vehicle.

The RCMP collision reconstructionist was called to the scene and the cause of the collision is still under investigation.

Police blocked two lanes of the highway following the crash, which caused traffic delays in the area.

At 10:50 a.m., Okotoks RCMP said the collision scene had been cleared and that traffic is flowing normally.
