Edmonton man killed Sunday in Highway 2 crash north of Airdrie

A 56-year-old male resident of Edmonton, Alta. was pronounced deceased on scene at an accident north of Airdrie yesterday.

On Aug. 25, at approximately 6:15 a.m., Airdrie RCMP with the assistance of the RCMP Collision Reconstructionist responded to a fatal collision 2 km north of Veterans Way along Hwy 2, in Airdrie.

Although Airdrie RCMP ‘s investigation into the collision is ongoing, preliminary findings suggest that a south bound car left the road surface and rolled. While rolling off the road surface it impacted a south bound van causing the two vehicles to be disabled, coming to rest in the north bound ditch.

The driver and only occupant of the south bound car, a 25-year-old male resident of Calgary, Alta. was transported for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries to the foot hills hospital in Calgary.

The driver of the south bound van, a 56-year-old male resident of Edmonton, Alta. was pronounced deceased on scene while his 10-year-old male passenger was flown by STARS Air Ambulance to Edmonton with unknown injuries.

RCMP expressed heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
