According to Mayor Jyoti Gondek, crews continue to make repairs to the main feeder line in Calgary today, and she commended Calgarians, particularly residents of Bowness, who have show resilience through the crisis to date.
She stressed the importance of continuing water conservation efforts to those who use Calgary water, including residents of Airdrie.
"The feeder main has not been repaired yet," she said at her 8:30 a.m. briefing; "so you and I need to make sure we are not using any outdoor water, and inside our homes we need to stick to limiting shower times, toilet flushes and dishwasher and laundry loads."
"We have all done really well so far over the past five days," Gondek added. "And thanks to your diligence, we remain under the daily maximum threshold of 480 million litres of consumption."
Gondek mention consumption again spiked up sharply on Monday to 472 million litres used as people seemed to be getting caught up on their showers and laundry. But stressed the importance of getting back on task to continue to reduce consumption across the city and region.
"I am confident we can continue to reduce our water usage today (Tuesday), and into the weekend."
She reminded residents and water users that it will likely be at least a few more days yet before the feeder main is repaired, tested and flushed, and asked that citizens continue to show patience as crews work hard to get things up and running normally again.
"That means we have several more days of all us being lower water users," she said.
