A two-vehicle collision on Highway 2 north of the Village of Clyde Tuesday evening has taken the life of a five-year-old Westlock girl.
Westlock RCMP received a call just after 8 p.m. on May 14 and responded to the scene of the collision on Highway 2 north of Township Road 602 in Westlock County.
In a press release Wednesday afternoon, the RCMP noted although the accident is still under investigation, preliminary findings suggest a head-on collision between the two vehicles but stated there is no way to ascertain more at this time. Two occupants from each vehicle were transported by ground ambulance or STARS with serious injuries.
No information is currently available about the three survivors of the crash.
Westlock RCMP thanked members of the public who arrived at the scene of the collision and were quick to provide aid, CPR, and traffic control while waiting for authorities for their assistance and the courage and commitment they showed for their fellow Albertans.
An update is anticipated once more information becomes available.
Alberta RCMP said their thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased in these difficult times, and they are asking the public and the media to allow the loved ones of the young girl to grieve.
