Alberta Food Banks will receive an additional $10 million in support from the Government of Alberta.
Of that amount, Jason Nixon, Alberta minister for Seniors, Community and Social Services, announced in a press conference in Edmonton today that $3.7 million will flow to food banks immediately with an additional $4.1 million in support available through grants applications throughout November.
The last $2.2 million will be allocated to Food Banks Alberta, the provincial association of food banks, to study how food banks are able to coordinate their responses when it comes to emergencies such as the wildfires which afflicted northern Alberta this past summer.
