Yellowhead County says a gas metering station was involved in a grass fire 10 kilometres west of Edson on Monday and no pipelines were involved.

The grass fire briefly made Highway 16 impassable between Range Road 192 and Highway 47.

Edson RCMP and Yellowhead County Fire responded to a call for assistance.

On arrival, it was determined that there was a gas metering station involved.

RCMP initially reported that a pipeline explosion has sparked the fire, but Yellowhead County later clarified that there has been no direct damage reported with nearby pipelines.

The wildfire was estimated to be three hectares in size but is now classified as under control.

Alberta Wildfire reported late Monday that the fire was mostly burning in wet marshy grass and some treed areas, and firefighters were making good progress containing the wildfire.

Yellowhead County was on scene working with FortisAlberta, TransMountain Pipeline, ATCO Gas, AltaLink, Alberta Forestry and the RCMP.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
