RCMP are reporting that a La La Biche man will be in court this week facing numerous charges following an arrest involving tactical police forces from across the province.
On March 15, the Lac La Biche RCMP, with the assistance of RCMP Emergency Response Team, RCMP Police Dog Services, and RCMP East Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit, executed a search warrant at two residences in Lac La Biche County following a weapons complaint. The large RCMP presence in an area north of Lakeland Drive and Highway 881 on Friday morning was witnessed by many local residents, saying armoured vehicles and tactical officers were seen along a rural road north of the Lakeland Drive intersection.
On Sunday afternoon, RCMP released a statement saying that a result of the search a 48-year-old man was taken into custody on three outstanding warrants and other charges. Police also say the search resulted in the seizure of four firearms, a large quantity of ammunition, and a prohibited device. Exactly what the device was, has not been detailed by RCMP.
The suspect has been remanded into custody until his first court appearance on the matters later this week.
Darren Emile Cadieux, of Lac La Biche, is facing multiple charges including two counts of uttering threats, resisting arrest, two counts of unsafe firearm storage, six counts of breaching a court order, a charge of defacing the serial number on a firearm, possession of a prohibited device and three counts of possessing a firearms contrary to a court order.
RCMP tell Lakeland This Week that no further details on the incident will be released as the matter is now in the courts.
